Speedminton, New Twist on Old Game

speedminton03_osidenewsCarlsbad CA– After 10 years of international success in Europe, Asia, and Australia, Speedminton decided to open an US office based in Carlsbad. With the New Year and the new office, Speedminton will focus on promoting the sport of Speed Badminton throughout the United States with a strong marketing focus on community outreach and events right here in Southern California.

In 2003, Speedminton GmbH was founded based off the invention of a faster, more wind stable form of badminton. Eight years later, the international umbrella organization, ISBO, was formed and this allowed for the first ever World Championship of Speed Badminton to take place. Over 370 players, spanning across 29 nations, participated in the tournament and fueled the popularity of the sport. Speed Badminton is currently played by 1.5 million recreational players and has more than 3,000 professional players. In comparison to other sports, it is very easy to set up. The game is played without a net and is very portable, which allows for you to play on almost every surface. You can even play in the dark with glow in the dark rackets and shuttles. Its biggest benefit, however, is the simplicity in which you can learn the game; even people with no previous racket sport experience can pick it up and start having fun.

Moving forward, Speedminton will be an integral part of communities throughout Southern California. By attending local events and holding trainings in community parks, Speedminton will engage participants and share with them the fun sport of Speed Badminton.

After a successful trip to the 2014 Sport and Social Industry Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Speedminton is now being offered in 12 sport and social clubs throughout the United States and continuing to grow. The quick set up and ease of learning the game makes this new sport a perfect addition to the sport and social scene. “It’s been a great addition to our lineup of sports that we currently offer. We started a Speedminton league because it is a great sport for mixed skill levels and everybody has fun while playing it.” said Rich Alvarez of Atlanta Sport & Social Club

The first tournaments are planned for later this summer and continuing into fall 2014. Speedminton is looking forward to adding more sport and social clubs to the map.
