Oceanside CA- A busy weekend of events, in Oceanside, with something for just about everyone, beginning tonight;

Friday – April 25

create_to_educate01_osidenewsCreate to Educate-As part of Earth Month 2014, join Green Oceanside, Coastal Music Studios and Oceanside students at the historic Star Theater in downtown Oceanside during the ‘Create to Educate Performance Art Contest Showcase’. Students will show off their musical and theatrical talents as they entertain and educate the audience on environmental issues. Come early and enjoy a lobby reception from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Showcase beginning at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Pajamarama storytime- Children ages 4 and up are invited to attend a special Pajamarama storytime celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This event will feature a special reading, plus a very fun color-in crown activity, treats and more. Don’t forget to wear your pajamas. Space is limited. 7:00 p.m., Barnes&Noble 2615 Vista Way

Saturday – April 26

Vintage Surf Swap Meet sponsored by California Surf Museum– Looking for some cool surf stuff to buy, trade, or decorate with? Come on by and see what the tribe of collectors have brought to share. Boards, posters, magazines, books, clothing, gear, collectibles – all will be on display for you to haggle over at your leisure. Come early and have fun. 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., parking lot across from Surf Museum, 312 Pier View Way.

3rd Annual Oceanside Harbor Swap Meet– The swap meet is geared to marine related items. Fishing gear, kayaks, tools, wiring, electric outboards, at least 2 dive fin sets, spear gun etc. Lots of items and many vendors at the the 3rd annual swap meet. 1950 Harbor Drive North.in the Oceanside Yacht Club parking lot. 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Loma Alta Creek and Beach Cleanup – Join community volunteers to remove trash along Loma Alta Creek and at Buccaneer Beach and the Pier. Registration locations can be found at green_oceanside_logowww.OceansideCleanWaterProgram.org

Used Oil Filter Exchange Event – A free oil filter exchange event will be held at O’Reilly Auto Parts at 3661 Mission Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oceanside residents can recycle up to two used oil filters and receive two new oil filters for free.

Build Your Own Compost Bin Workshop – This workshop will guide participants through the process of building a compost bin by using re-purposed items from home. The workshop starts at 1 p.m. at the El Corazon Senior Center. To register, visit www.elcorazoncompostfacility.com.

days_of_art._osidenewsDays of Art – The Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation will host the 22nd annual Oceanside Days of Art (ODA) held 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, at the corner of Coast Hwy 101 and Pier View Way in downtown Oceanside, California. Oceanside Days of Art is a juried fine art festival featuring over 100 local artists from throughout Southern California selling a variety of unique art.

Dia del Nino – Ballet Folklorico, the Bookmobile, face-painting, wrestling exhibition, information booths and much more. Sponsored by Eastside Neighborhood Association and City of Oceanside Neighborhood Services Dept. Joe Balderrama Park 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

SpringHill Suites Oceanside Hosts Charity Lemonade Stand – Thirsty beach goers can grab a cup of lemonade at the new SpringHill Suites by Marriott Oceanside this Saturday and help raise money for a good cause. 2 to 4 p.m. The beach side hotel will stage a lemonade stand at its front entrance.

The Hill Street Country Club – Josh Marlar, Artist an open reception starting 6 p.m., at the Hill Street Country Club Gallery 212D N. Coast Highway Artists Alley.

Sunday April 27

earth_festival_osidenewsEarth Festival– The largest North County Earth Festival will be held in downtown Oceanside on Sunday, April 27th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Earth Festival has exciting attractions for everyone including a vintage market, green home improvement area, rock climbing wall, great entertainment and a water-friendly plant sale. Also the Festival will include a Children’s Eco-Zone with an assortment of Earth friendly crafts including an area to make your own recycled instrument and be a part of the children’s recycled instrument parade. Admission to the Earth Festival is free.
