Carlsbad CA— MiraCosta College’s Community Education and Workforce Development Program is offering the following not-for-credit courses this spring:

Introduction to Python-xy

Python is a programming language used in many areas of industry, such as computer vision, machine learning, robotics, web development and gaming. This course focuses on the basics with examples in computer networking and web applications.

Fee: $125; Admin Fee: $50. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Saturdays, 2/25–3/18, 12–5 p.m.

Soldering Basics

Whether you like to fabricate things in your garage, or you need practice to become more proficient in your job, this hands-on course will help. Fee: $75; Admin Fee: $30. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Saturdays, 2/25–3/25, 8:30 AM–12:30 p.m.

Leadership for New Supervisors

An introductory course for supervisors—become effective leaders This course covers the basic fundamentals of leadership, preparing emerging leaders to adopt a new role as employee-focused leaders. The program covers the latest tools on employee motivation, empowerment and communication to achieve a solid relationship of collaboration, trust and commitment between supervisor and employee. In-class activities will allow for hands-on experience on lessons learned during the course. Attendees will gain skill sets that will improve workplace communication; allowing employees to show more positive engagement, deeper commitment, and a stronger dedication to their jobs.

OSHA-30

The OSHA-30 hour general industry outreach training course is a comprehensive safety-training program designed for anyone involved in general industry. The course provides extensive information on OSHA compliance, safety and health hazards in the workplace, employer responsibilities, worker rights, and hazard recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention.

Fee: $250; Admin Fee: $75 + Certification Fee: $80. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2/28–3/23 5:30–9:30 p.m.

Introduction to Electromechanics

Electromechanical technicians combine knowledge of mechanical technology with knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits. They install, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade electronic and computer-controlled mechanical systems. In this 60-hour course, students will learn about mechanical systems; solder small electrical boards; build, program and operate a 3D printer; troubleshoot a copier; and more.

Fee: $1,650; Admin Fee: $125. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2/28–5/4, 6–9 p.m.

Basic Electronics

This introductory, 54-hour course teaches students the basics of electronic technology. Students experiment with direct current, series-parallel circuits and transistors/semiconductors. Additional topics include study of Ohm’s law, Watt’s law; use of electronic components; basic soldering; oscilloscopes; digital volt meters; bread-boarding electronic circuits; basic computer troubleshooting; basic AC circuitry.

Fee: $1,450; Admin Fee: $125. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Mondays & Wednesdays, 2/27–4/26, 6–8:30 p.m.

Introduction to CNC Programming Using MasterCam Mill

In this 30-hour introductory course, students learn how to design basic CNC programs for a three-axis CNC milling machine. Students will be instructed on G&M codes, boolean logic, and machine and control definitions. In addition, the class will cover basic aspects of post configuration, variable definitions, formatting, post lines, post text, modality, and control definitions. Fee: $150; Admin Fee: $50. Location: Technology Career Institute, 2075 Las Palmas Drive, Carlsbad. Time: Mondays & Wednesdays, 2/27–3/29, 6–9 p.m.
