Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College proudly presents A Time to Heal, artwork that was developed as the result of workshops in which war veterans wrote letters to themselves reflecting on suffering and the healing process. Trinh Mai, internationally known local photographer, then had the participants use the letters within an art piece that depicted their own personal “war wounds.” Mai then photographed the veterans with the “wounds.”
“Through a collaboration with the Oceanside Museum of Art and a grant from Affordable Housing Access, Trinh mentored MiraCosta veteran students through the process of art as therapy to cope with their war trauma,” explains Thoa Ha, chair of the sociology department at MiraCosta College.
