Encinitas CA— Below is a list of events and classes for the start of the new year 2018 at the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas.

Daily, January 8 – March 31, 2018, 9 am – 5 pm. San Diego Botanic Garden. Ecke Building. 230 Quail Gardens Drive. Free with paid admission or membership.

Garden Tapestries from Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Center in Giza, Egypt. Back by popular demand are the garden-themed tapestries from the Rameses Wissa Wassef Art Center in Giza, Egypt! The Egyptian artists in this exhibit vividly celebrate the flowers of the desert, villages and Nile River in their work. These tapestries are available for purchase with most of the proceeds going to support the artists – many of whom work on these tapestries for up to 2 years! Sculpture in the Garden. This unique exhibition showcases 52 sculptures from more than 30 talented artists – including renowned local artist James Hubbell – set against the beautiful backdrop of the San Diego Botanic Garden. Take a self-guided tour with the Garden’s Sculpture Map. San Diego Botanic Garden Annual Meeting. Come find out how your contributions to the Garden have helped us grow! Enjoy wine & cheese & a special presentation by Ari Novy, Chief Scientist at Leichtag Foundation who will speak on the importance of conservatories. Saturday, January 13, 2018, 9 am – 12 pm. San Diego Botanic Garden. 230 Quail Gardens Drive. SDBG Members: $30, non-members $36. A $80 materials fee per student is also paid directly to the instructor at the class.

Journaling with Pens & Watercolor. Pens with watercolors are a very useful combo for journaling just about anywhere – especially an outdoor environment as spectacular as the Garden. Tuesday, January 23, 2018, 9 am – 12:30 pm. San Diego Botanic Garden. 230 Quail Gardens Drive. SDBG Members: $45, non-members $54. Fee includes materials.

Succulent Mushroom. Take home a charming succulent mushroom that you make yourself in this class taught by the SDBG Succulent Wreath Team. Students should bring small clippers or scissors to class. Info: http://www.sdbgarden.org/classes.htm


Docent Training:

 First Class: Thursday, January 18, 2018, 9:30 am – 1 pm. San Diego Botanic Garden. 230 Quail Gardens Drive. $60 fee for 8 classes. Pre-requisites required. Check our website or contact Jill Gardner at jgardner@sdbgarden.org for more information.

Docent Training. Want to meet new great new friends who share your love of gardening and learn more about San Diego Botanic Garden’s 4,000 unique plant collection? Then you’ll want to take our Docent Training classes that begin on Thursday, January 18. Pre-requisites are required as well as a small fee to cover the costs of the class.
