12th Annual Oceanside Music Festival Set for October

Oceanside CA-(Special Event)The 12th annual Oceanside Music Festival, OMFest, offers five concerts this year boasting a variety of music genre, showcasing both student and professional musicians from throughout Southern California. This year’s OMFest series opens October 5 and runs through October 20 with concerts featuring an Early Rock-n-Roll themed musical, as well as liturgical, choral, and classical music.
Part of this year’s program is an unusual concert that will be held October 12 at 1st Presbyterian Church in Oceanside – Robert Estrin’s “Living Piano…A Journey Through Time” offers the audience a “historic concert experience”. The concert is the brainchild of Robert Estrin, a second generation concert pianist from an extended family of musicians. Concert pianist, educator and instrument collector (who has over 25 pianos, harpsichords and fortepianos), Estrin saw the need for a multi-media presentation to attract people of all ages to the wonder that is the piano! In period costumes, the brilliant maestro will come out as young Mozart and Liszt. The performance will highlight 3 distinct periods of music on authentic instruments from Estrin’s collection. This will be an interactive concert with “hands on” audience participation. The thrust of the show will be a whirlwind performance spanning centuries of development that led to the modern piano. It will be a lively show with lots of great music, historical instruments, and costumes.

Oceanside Music Festival is an annual event of charitable nature. Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation Performing Arts Scholarships are presented annually by OMFest to graduating high school seniors based upon student experience, contributions to their performing arts program, and a teacher recommendation. OMFest has evolved over the years from its beginnings in 2002 by Tomas J. Morrow, PhD and the Oceanside Rotary Club with an all-Gershwin program. Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation / OCAF took over OMFest in 2005 and expanded it to include a variety of musical genres. The goal, however, has remained the same: we are hoping to inspire young musicians to further explore their talents in the musical arts, while raising funds to support their talents and dreams.
