Oceanside CA- (Special Event) This year, Old Mission San Luis Rey is expanding the altar area for Dia de los Muertos, to use all available arches on the Retreat Center side of the Mission. There is no cost to build an altar.
If you would like to build an altar please print and fill out the form, below and mail to Maureen Sullivan : Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave, Oceanside CA 92057. Or you can drop off your form at the Gift Shop any day of the week from 10am – 4:30pm. There is no charge to build and altar and we will supply two 8’ tables per application for as long as our table supply lasts. Once we run out of our supply you will need to provide your own (first come first served). So turn in your form ASAP!
Mellano & Company is again, generously donating the marigolds and we will divide the flower bunches on Saturday morning. Last year had a limited supply of flowers due to a poor growing season. This year the hope is to have two full truckloads. If there is only have one truckload again this year, people need to be at the Mission no later than 10am on Saturday to claim your flowers. We will not reserve flowers, last year flowers kept wandering after we tried to save them under empty tables. If we have two truckloads of flowers, there should not have any shortages but that won’t be known until the flowers are delivered on Saturday morning.
Altar building will be on Saturday, Oct. 26th from 7am – 6pm and then again on Sunday, Oct. 27th from 7am – 9am. I am still working out the details regarding Mass on Sunday and blessing of the altars with the Friars. I think Mass will be at 8:30am followed immediately by blessing of the altars but the time might change.
Plan on arriving no later than 9am on Sunday, after 9am the traffic and parking starts to get a little difficult. Parking passes will be provided once applications are received.
