Oceanside CA- Walmart will hire up to 65 associates to work at the new Walmart Neighborhood Market slated to open this winter in Oceanside at 1046 Mission Ave. A temporary hiring center has opened at 1617 Mission Ave. in Oceanside.
“We are excited to bring a new Walmart Neighborhood Market to the area, providing local families a place where they can shop and save money to live better,” said store manager Joseph Cisneros.
Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested applicants may also apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.
According to Cisneros, the store will be hiring both full and part-time associates. “I want to give individuals the opportunity to work with Walmart and advance in their careers the same way I did,” said Cisneros. “I’m looking for employees with a great attitude and positive work ethic.”
Cisneros brings more than 25 years of grocery and retail management experience to the store. He has been with Walmart for nine years, starting as an assistant manager at the Lakewood, Walmart store, and working in management positions in several departments in stores throughout the state.

Walmart provides a benefits program to eligible full and part-time associates that includes a variety of affordable health and well-being benefits such as health-care coverage with no lifetime maximum. Walmart also offers eligible associates matching 401(k) contributions of up to 6 percent of pay, discounts on general merchandise, an Associate Stock Purchase Program and company-paid life insurance. The Walmart Neighborhood Market, a reuse of a vacant retail space, the space was formerly a Staples store, will be approximately 31,000 square feet and is expected to open in the first half of 2014. Walmart Neighborhood Markets feature a wide variety of products, including fresh produce, meats and dairy products, frozen foods, dry goods and staples, deli foods, bakery items, canned and packaged goods, condiments and spices, pet supplies, household supplies and a pharmacy. The new store in Oceanside will include energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy, water consumption and minimize waste. Internally illuminated exterior building signage will use light emitting diodes (LEDs). Highly efficient and low-flow toilets and faucets will reduce the water used in the restrooms. The store will also operate recycling programs and promote sustainable product purchases.
First opened in 1998, Walmart operates about 250 Neighborhood Markets across the country, including 24 in California. The stores are between 30,000 and 60,000 square feet in size, similar to a typical grocery store found in many communities.
“Oceanside is pleased that Walmart is continuing its valuable investment in our community,” said Oceanside Deputy Mayor Jerry Kern. “This new store will put an empty commercial space back to work for our residents, providing affordable goods and high-quality jobs.
Walmart operates 22 stores in San Diego County, including 11 general merchandise stores, nine supercenters, one Neighborhood Market and one Sam’s Club location. This will be the fourth store to open in Oceanside, and Walmart employs more than 900 associates in the City
The majority of new associates will begin work in December to help prepare the store for its grand opening next year.
