Carlsbad CA– Fun Flights is starting up at McClellan Palomar Airport in Carlsbad over Easter weekend, offering biplane rides in a 1929 Travel Air B-4000 Biplane. It’s perfect timing to see the breathtaking Flowers Fields at Carlsbad Ranch with a bird’s eye view or just sit back and be dazzled with the stunning beaches and lagoons of North San Diego County.
Fun Flights LLC is a locally owned company based at 2018 Palomar Airport Road, Suite 2, Carlsbad 92011 (Directions: turn into Airport and bear left, right turn at end and Fun Flights is on the left. Reservations are required; toll free number is 1-855-TWO-WING (1-855-896-9464).
It’s real flying . . .flying like it used to be with helmet and goggles in the open-air. Two passengers sit side by side in the front cockpit while one of our pilots flies from the rear cockpit (unless you go alone in the front and want to take controls and fly!). Prices start at $199 for two people for one-half hour in the air, $399 for an hour and there is a truly splendiferous Sunset Flight you’ll never forget for $499.
From Barnstormers to Bishops via Herman the German, some Fun Flight Factoids about our Travel Air nicknamed “Olive’: Fun Flights is the 25th owner since N9872 was built in 1929. It has worked in seven states delivering mail and parcels, to flying Civil Air Patrol, training students and Navy flyers, flown in a movie (Richard Bach’s “Nothing By Chance”), labored as a crop duster and sometimes just flown for the delight of flying.
There is more historical (and hysterical) information on the website at www.funflights.com about the famous barnstormers who flew N9872, the Bishop and his school that owned it and Herman the German who everyone seemed to adore!
