Oceanside CA- A 70% chance of rain tonight decreasing to 20% for Saturday which is good news for people attending outdoor events over the weekend.

On Saturday, a long period south-southwesterly swell will generate elevated surf and strong rip currents along the Orange and San Diego County beaches. The highest waves will occur on south facing beaches, especially in Orange County. These conditions will persist through Monday evening then slowly improve by late Monday night.

  • Waves and surf – 4 to 7 feet on south facing beaches with local sets to 9 feet.
  • Timing and wave heights increase during the day Saturday, peak Sunday then slowly decrease Monday into Tuesday.
  • Minor coastal flooding possible at times of high tide.
  • Impacts; strong long-shore currents, rip currents and elevated surf will result in dangerous swimming conditions especially for inexperienced swimmers.

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as strong rip currents, elevated surf heights, minor tidal overflow or lightning are possible at local beaches. Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming. Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard.
