Carlsbad Search for Man Swept to Sea Turns to Recovery in Oceanside

Oceanside CA– The search, Wednesday, for a missing person, swept out to sea in Carlsbad, turned into a recovery early this morning in Oceanside. A person walking along the beach discovered a body, in the water, half a block north of Cassidy and South Pacific Street in Oceanside. Fire department  lifeguards responded and confirmed the person was deceased. Police confirmed the body was that of the 22 year old  who went missing Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday evening, the victim,  a 22-year-old Vista man was walking in the water near Robert C. Frazee Beach in Carlsbad, with his 18-year-old brother  when the older brother was reportedly hit by a large wave and swept into the sea. Officials stated that neither of the brothers were swimmers.

A search began and lasted several hours before it was called off late Wednesday. The search was set to resume at first light this morning. Several local agencies along with state lifeguards and the Coast Guard were involved in the search using helicopters, boats and divers. The Coast Guard kept a ship in the area until early this morning and had a helicopter up at daybreak.

The identity of the victim has not been released and the investigation is being turned over to the San Diego County Coroner.
