No injuries in Sprinter vs Truck Collision on Oceanside Blvd.

Oceanside CA– On Monday, July 28, 2014, at approximately 3:23 pm, Sheriff’s Rail Enforcement deputies responded to a train versus vehicle collision on the railroad tracks near the 1100 block of Oceanside Boulevard, in the city of Oceanside. A Ford F-150 truck was struck by a Sprinter light rail train.

According to witnesses and the driver, as the westbound train was approaching the location, the railroad crossing gates were down and the lights and bell were activated. While waiting for the approaching train, the driver’s foot slipped off the brake, allowing the vehicle to roll forward under the grade crossing arms and onto the railroad tracks.

The train operator applied the emergency brakes upon seeing the vehicle on the railroad tracks, but was unable to stop prior to colliding with the truck. No one was injured in the collision, and the truck sustained moderate front-end damage.

The Sprinter sustained minor damage. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department Coaster and Railroad Enforcement Unit were called to the scene and will be handling the investigation. Anyone with information about this case can call the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858)565-5200.
