See Chicken Parade in its “natural” Environment.

San Marcos CA – This summer marks the first annual San Marcos Art Council’s Chicken Parade, in partnership with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. SMAC is bridging connections between local businesses, artists and the thousands of residents along the 78 corridor by coordinating 28 unique sculptures in a parade unlike any other in San Marcos.

SMAC would like to encourage you to view individual chickens in their “natural” environment before the Parade comes to an end in September. Chicken Parade sponsors such as the Computer Factor, Elephant Bar, Sacred Space Imports and the new Great Clips off Rancho Santa Fe are currently roosting the inspirational, artist-adorned chicken sculptures with a city-wide scavenger hunt and photo contest. Participating Chicken Artists include Ellen Benfatti, Jason Bennett, Phyllis Swonson, Tamara Kapan of Art Divas and Walt Hambly.

SMAC is hosting an assortment of family-friendly prizes for both the Scavenger Hunt and Photo Contests. In conjunction with the sculptures, the San Marcos Arts Council is offering free coloring projects for youth from its website. Coloring projects, social media competitions and public participation in the Chicken Parade are free. For details visit http://sanmarcosartscouncil.com/chickenparade/ .

Hurry! The chickens will be migrating to Walnut Grove Park where they will be up for auction. The Horse Heritage Festival on October 19th and the Chamber Mixer on October 23rd will be vibrating with excitement as the chicken finally takes flight, the photo contest winners are announced, chicken artists are awarded and all the incredible business support is recognized. The public is encouraged to attend both the October 19 and October 23 Chicken Parade finally. Monies raised will allow the Council to continue its mission “to promote and advance artistic activity in our community, primarily through education, exposing the public to the fine and performing arts, and serving the community.”

About the San Marcos Arts Council

The San Marcos Arts Council (SMAC), is an all-volunteer board working to promote and advance artistic activity in the community, primarily through education, exposing the public to the fine and performing arts, and serving as a community resource in promoting artistic development throughout San Marcos and the 78 Corridor. Since its inception in 2009, the Council has regularly hosted free hands-on activities at community events, partnered with artists and non-profits, as well as sponsored artist workshops. A City grant in 2013 has allowed the Council to reach new heights in programming and outreach. Visit the Council at www.SanMarcosArtsCouncil.com.
