More than $500,000 Raised for Rady Children’s Hospital in Partnership with Walmart and Sam’s Club

Oceanside CA– Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members recently wrapped up a six-week campaign to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) across the country. Rady Children’s Hospital partnered with Walmart and Sam’s Club stores across San Diego and Imperial counties and was able to raise a total of $531,396.88.

Nationally, through donations accepted at cash registers and in-store fundraising activities Walmart raised more than $40.2 million for the 170 hospitals that make up CMNH, helping provide patient visits for more than 10 million kids each year.

“I’m so proud of the commitment of our Walmart and Sam’s Club associates, customers and members have made to supporting Rady Children’s Hospital and the invaluable work they do every day in San Diego,” said Steve Markey, Walmart market manager in San Diego. “Together we are making a difference and helping these children and their families live better.”

This year’s campaign is the most recent in annual fundraising by the retailers, as Walmart and Sam’s Club have collected more than $740 million since first partnering with the charity in 1987. Walmart and Sam’s Club funds impact each of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which treat one in 10 children across North America. Hospitals use the funds based on what they need the most—typically for purchasing lifesaving equipment, supporting top therapy programs and providing charitable care.

“We are so grateful for the incredible work of Walmart leadership and their associates, which led to another successful fundraising campaign,” said Carol Damon-Scherer, Vice President of Development, Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Many special programs rely on community support to operate, and with this donation Rady Children’s will be better-equipped to provide the excellence in patient care we are known for nationwide.”

To raise funds, Rady Children’s Hospital partnered with local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores to host a variety of fundraising activities that propelled giving totals to exceed previous years. Rady Children’s Hospital will be using the funds as part of its Hope & Healing Fund. This program helps fund life-saving technology and research, provide a safety net for children with little or no medical insurance and create a healing environment designed to enrich the experience of patients and their families. With Walmart’s contributions to the fund, Rady Children’s Hospital is able to help fulfill the highest and greatest needs of the hospital and make a significant impact on the health of children in the community.

The retailer’s six-week campaign ran May 1 – June 13. Walmart and Sam’s Club 2014 fundraising efforts will continue throughout the year at participating locations through various in- store activities.
