ArtSplash 2014 Chalk Art & Entertainment Festival

Carlsbad CA– Carlsbad’s annual fall classic –ArtSplash Chalk Art and Entertainment Festival – dives onto Armada Drive in Carlsbad on September 27-28, 2014. With this year’s “Hats Off to Artists” theme celebrating the creativity inherent in everyone, ArtSplash 2014 marks its 12th anniversary of being a community celebration for arts education. Event-goers enjoy free parking and admission plus free and easy access to a colorful whirl of nonstop arts, music and entertainment with the picturesque Pacific as a backdrop.

What is ArtSplash? Museum-quality chalk paintings created by professional artists coming to life on the pavement as visitors marvel. Kid-sized chalk art, recycled paper hat-making and other interactive arts activities for children of all ages plus a Sunday car show for hot rod buffs. Nonstop live music, including Vista Buddhist Temple Shokenji Taiko Drummers kicking off the event and Euphoria Brass Band taking its New Orleans brand of music up and down the street. Delicious food, including Saturday’s Taste@ArtSplash. Sand sculpture by world-renowned Gerry Kirk. Fine art vendors. Speed painting. An auction of hand-painted palettes. And to top it off, a cheesy touch of ArtSplash art thanks to the cheddar sculpting magic of Sarah Kaufmann.

To date, Taste participants include Chick-fil-A, Ignite, Green Dragon Tavern, Sheraton 20/20, Miguel’s Cocina, Blaze Pizza and Pollos Maria. More eateries will be added. Tickets are $20.

To date, ArtSplash has contributed more than $50,000 to school programs for diverse visual and performing arts and music programs. In 2013-14, grants totaling $8,154 funded 17 innovative and enriching programs for K-12 students within Carlsbad Unified School District, Encinitas Union School District, Oceanside Unified School District, San Dieguito Union High School District, San Marcos Unified School District and Vista Unified School District.

ArtSplash Chair Joni Miringoff states, “The grant recipients’ commitment to the arts and their students is precisely what our organization is intended to support. We are so pleased to offer these funds and hope to see many students at this year’s chalk art and entertainment festival. We call it the ‘big community draw’ because ArtSplash draws people together and draws out their innate imaginative talents.”

A TV preview will air during September on KOCT’s “Oceanside Spectrum” at www.koct.org.
