San Marcos CA – September 30th is officially the close of the San Marcos Art Council’s first annual Chicken Parade but it is not the end of the festivities. The uniquely artist-adorned chicken sculptures will be migrating to the San Marcos Historical Society’s great hall for two grand events – the Horse Heritage Festival on October 19, 2014 from 10:00am –3:00pm and the monthly San Marcos Chamber Mixer on October 23, 2014 from 5:30-7:30pm.

Walnut Grove Park will be vibrating with excitement as the chicken finale takes flight. A silent auction for the one-of-a-kind chickens will open with the Horse Heritage Festival. Four days later, at the Chamber Mixer, SMAC will close the auction and announce winning bidders, along with photo contest and scavenger hunt winners, chicken artist awards and recognize all the incredible business support throughout the summer.

If you did not get out to see the Chicken Parade this summer, don’t miss your last chance to capture a glimpse of the wildly talented works by artists such as Tammy Gillespie, Cynthia Kostyllo, Monica Romero and Vista Arts Commissioner Joyce Pekala through the support of businesses such as California Bank & Trust, North County Wine, UEI College of San Marcos and State Farm on San Marcos Blvd.. The public is encouraged to attend both the October 19 and October 23 Chicken Parade finale. Monies raised from the silent auction will allow the Council to continue its mission “to promote and advance artistic activity in our community, primarily through education, exposing the public to the fine and performing arts, and serving the community.” For more details visit http://sanmarcosartscouncil.com/chickenparade/ .

About the San Marcos Arts Council

The San Marcos Arts Council (SMAC), is an all-volunteer board working to promote and advance artistic activity in the community, primarily through education, exposing the public to the fine and performing arts, and serving as a community resource in promoting artistic development throughout San Marcos and the 78 Corridor. Since its inception in 2009, the Council has regularly hosted free hands-on activities at community events, partnered with artists and non-profits, as well as sponsored artist workshops. A City grant in 2013 has allowed the Council to reach new heights in programming and outreach. Visit the Council at www.SanMarcosArtsCouncil.com.
