Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Crash

Vista CA– Early on Sunday, September 21, 2014, Vista Deputies took a report of a stolen 2000 GMC pickup. At 1:44 PM Sunday, a witness telephoned the Sheriff’s Communications Center and reported seeing the stolen vehicle in a shopping center at South Santa Fe and Civic Center Drive, in Vista.

When deputies arrived they established a perimeter around the location and approached the vehicle. As they did, the driver was able to evade the deputies before they could reach the vehicle. The suspect fled in the stolen vehicle.

Deputies pursued the stolen pickup for approximately five miles attempting to stop the driver.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, David Marquez (DOB 10-28-94), drove into the intersection of East Vista Way and Vale Terrace Drive and collided with two other vehicles. Marquez was determined to be at fault in the collision.

The Vista Fire Department and medics responded to the scene. The three occupants in the other vehicles, which Marquez collided with, were transported to the hospital, treated, and later released with minor injuries. Marquez was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of auto theft and felony evading.
