Oceanside CA– The woman who died when her Oceanside home caught fire early Tuesday morning, September 22, 1014 has been identified as 71 year-old, Frances Crutchfield.

The morning of the fire, the decedent’s great nephew suddenly awoke and smelled smoke. He exited his bedroom through a window and called 9-1-1. Fire personnel responded to the scene and entered the home at 200 N. El Camino Real, Space #366. Firefighters found Frances Crutchfield unresponsive in the master bathroom.

She was removed from the home and emergency personnel initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Despite resuscitation efforts, she could not be revived and death was pronounced at the scene.

The initial investigation by OFD and OPD’s arson investigators indicates the deceased had been smoking in her room and likely fell asleep. No foul play or arson is suspected at this time.
