13th Annual Oceanside Music Festival

Oceanside CA– The 13th Annual Oceanside Music Festival is set to get underway this month. Put out by Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF), the 13th annual Oceanside Music Festival, known as OMFest in local endearment terms, offers concerts this year with a variety of music genre, showcasing both student and professional musicians from throughout Southern California. Originally founded in 2002 by Thomas J. Morrow, PhD and the Oceanside Rotary Club with an all-Gershwin program, the festival has evolved over time into an event that lasts for 3 weeks every year. October is “National Art and Humanities Month”, and OCAF, proud member of Americans for the Arts, and the OMFest Committee, feel this time is a perfect way to celebrate with music.

OMFest-2014 series opens with “Bond, Just Bond” Reception And OCAF Scholarship Gala, 6:00 pm to 8:30pm, Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Oceanside Museum of Art, 704 Pier View Way Oceanside, CA. The theme this year is based on the beloved characters from the “007” movies. Attendees will be treated to a Casino Royale Cocktail Hour with an assortment of gourmet foods, “Casino Royal” hors d’oeuvres, Signature Bond-tinis, and wines from local establishments, as well as music, music, music. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite Bond or Bond girl, and prizes will be presented for the best and most creative costumes.

During the evening, the OCAF 2014 Honoree Mr. Mark Phelps will be introduced and presented with an award. Mark, who was awarded with the Medal of Honor as the top student in Music and Art of MiraCosta College (graduate of 1973) and received his BA in Music Education from SDSU in 1979, is the long time director of instrumental music at Oceanside High, and an extraordinary musician in his own right. Several of his former students have received scholarships from funds raised at OMFest Scholarship Galas. The evening includes the following live performances: Ann Gustafson from El Camino High School with “Almost There” from Princess and the Frog, Lauren Switte with “Party in the USA”, Shelbi Sanborn with “Skyfall”, Dan Windham with “I Did It My Way”, and more stage appearances by Nova Charle, Michelle Sorger, Taylor Tickner, and the OMFest Ensemble.

“Global Spirit” concert will follow 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 12, 2014, at St Mary Star of the Sea Church, 609 Pier View Way, Oceanside, CA. This musical event will feature liturgical dancers, and choral groups including the duo of Rachel Cobian and Steffen Stewart, Gypsy Doodle with their international folk music, and Liturgical Dancers, a combined group coordinated and directed by Emmalyn Moreno, a sacred dancer, performing artist, teacher, who has taught and performed throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The festival will continue with “Give Me That Old Time Religion” concert 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the historic 1st Christian Church, 204 S. Freeman St, Oceanside, CA. The series will conclude with “Succulent Jazz” 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 26, 2014, sponsored by and held at Apotheque Spa, 322 N Cleveland St, Oceanside, CA. OMFest organizers are pleased to have Apotheque Spa, owned by Michelle Bartok, as a sponsor of this concert as this will be the perfect way to end the series of events: an afternoon jazz/blues concert featuring Adrienne Nims and Spirit Wind, outdoors in the Apotheque Gardens, with a lovely sea breeze.
