Elderly Pedestrian Hospitalized after Being Struck by Car

Oceanside CA– Early this morning, October 2, 2014 at 7:27 Oceanside Police dispatchers received a 911 call regarding a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Oceanside Police and Oceanside Fire units responded to the scene and determined the following.

The pedestrian, 88 year old Alejandro Lopez, was crossing College Boulevard at Thunder Drive with a green light. He was walking westbound in the north crosswalk. He was struck by a 2006 Honda. The Honda was also being driven westbound and attempted to turn left onto southbound College.

The Honda struck Lopez in the number one southbound lane. Lopez fell to the ground, striking his head. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla with an undetermined head injury. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. The driver of the Honda, Jesse Leon, was shaken up but not injured. Leon is an Oceanside resident. Lopez could not disclose his address.

Neither speed nor alcohol/drugs appear to be a factor.
The investigation is continuing.
