Oceanside CA– The Oceanside Music Festivals second musical event, in celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month will be “Global Spirit”, Oct 12, 2:30, at St Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 609 Pier View Way, Oceanside. The historic downtown church will host a concert with international flavor.
The program will open with a special performance by Rachel Cobian and Steffen Stewart, two very talented student singers from Calvary Christian School in Vista.
Scheduled performers include Liturgical Dancers, sometimes called praise or worship dancers, an art form since the early days of Jewish history. It has moved in and out of favor over the years, but it’s enjoying a resurgence of popularity in modern times. Liturgical dance is any dance done as an act of worship. It may be performed as part of a church service, as a stand-alone event. Liturgical dance isn’t defined by any particular style. It’s often associated with jazz or lyrical dance, but ballet, tap or even hip-hop can be used.
Global Spirit dancers from several troupes are under the direction Emmalyn Morena , Vice President for the Southern California Chapter of the Sacred Dance Guild, Director of Chapters for the International Sacred Dance Guild, member of the Alleluia Dance Theater and director of Movin’ With the Spirit Ensemble. Her original music and choreography have been performed across the United States and in Canada.
Also scheduled to perform is “Gypsy Doodle”, composed of French, Russian, and American musicians. Their music, a global smorgasbord, has been enjoyed throughout Southern California.
A Free Will Offering will be taken up during the concert.
