Carlsbad CA– In honor of Veterans Day, Carlsbad City Library is hosting screenings of documentary and critically acclaimed films showcasing the untold stories of World War II during the month of November. Mayday Tugs of War — Europe is the feature film for this month’s series. Hear the courageous accounts of the World War II Deep Sea Rescue Tugmen and in-person commentary by director Robin D. Williams as he presents his award-winning documentary. All Cinema Series of Carlsbad films are shown at the Carlsbad City Library inside the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Admission is free.

The Monuments Men

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, the film focuses on an unlikely World War II platoon tasked with going into German-occupied Europe to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves. In a seemingly impossible mission, the Monuments Men find themselves in a race against time to prevent the destruction of 1,000 years of culture and defend humanity’s greatest achievements. Starring an ensemble cast including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Cate Blanchett.

Valkyrie (2008, PG-13, 121 min)
A historical thriller set in Nazi Germany during World War II, the film depicts the failed political coup by renegade German army officers against Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. Led by Col. Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) and armed with a cunning strategy to use Hitler’s own emergency plan known as Operation Valkyrie against him, these men plot to assassinate the dictator and overthrow his Nazi government from the inside.
