Latin American Literature Course at Oceanside Public Library

“El Realismo Mágico de Gabriel García Márquez”

Oceanside CA– Beginning Tuesday, November 4, 2014, the Oceanside Public Library will be offering a six-week Latin American Literature course focusing on the Magic Realism of Gabriel García Márquez. The course will be taught completely in Spanish, and all readings will also be in Spanish. It will be held Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. in the Civic Center Foundation Room on the second floor of the Civic Center Library.

The course will be taught by Latin American Literature Professor Manuel Cachán. He has a B.A. in Latin American Studies, and a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature. He has been a professor of Latin American Literature at colleges and universities all over the United States, including one semester at Palomar College in San Marcos. He is now retired and lives in Oceanside.

Students in the six week class will read and discuss Los funerals de la Mamá Grande and El coronel no tiene quien le escribe, books will be provided.
