Oceanside CA– SpringHill Suites Marriott Oceanside in San Diego, Calif.announced today that it has been awarded LEED® Silver certification. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance.

“We are thrilled to receive our official designation as a LEED certified Silver hotel,” said General Manager Kathleen Maola. “We are proud of our commitment to sustainable practices and realize that this is just one step in an on-going drive to lessen our environmental footprint.”

Opened in February 2014, SpringHill Suites Marriott Oceanside achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. It is currently the only hotel in Oceanside to carry the designation and one of only a handful of hotels in San Diego.

The hotel earned top marks for its sustainable building practices including use of recycled materials, connectivity to the community and water efficient landscaping. The property’s access to public transportation, energy efficiency, mitigation of heat island effect through underground parking and storm water management to prevent ocean pollution also helped contribute to the silver certification.

“With each new LEED-certified building, we get one step closer to USGBC’s vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO & founding chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “As the newest member of the LEED family of green buildings, SpringHill Suites Marriott Oceanside is an important addition to the growing strength of the green building movement.”
