San Marcos Chickens Make their Way to Carlsbad

Carlsbad CA— This summer marked the first annual San Marcos Art Council’s Chicken Parade, in partnership with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. By utilizing a uniform chicken sculpture, SMAC created a vehicle by which to bridge connections between local businesses, artists and the thousands of residents along the 78 corridor. Now that the official Parade has come to a close, the chickens are on the loose.

There are only 14 chicken sculptures available from the original Parade of 29. Be the first to see the show at Homelife Village Realtors located 500 Grand Ave, Carlsbad Village to claim one for yourself. Participating Chicken Artists include Ellen Benfatti, Jason Bennett, Phyllis Swanson, Tamara Kapan of Art Divas and Walt Hambly. Some artists painted the sculptures in acrylic or watercolors, while others added elaborate feathers and 3-Dimensional qualities. Each chicken has been described as “having a personality all its own.”

Homelife Village Realtors occupies a lovely office in the heart of Carlsbad Village and has been consistently supporting local art for more than a decade. President, Gary Nessim has been on the front line of pioneering art activities for the Village, including the 2009-2010 Thursday on the Coast Art Walk. One way in which he utilizes the corner office is by exhibiting local artists. The SMAC chickens will be on exhibit in the Homelife office from November 17, 2014 – January 15, 2015

Funds raised from the chicken sculptures will support the SMAC’s mission to “foster and promote an arts environment that enriches the community and envision a culturally exciting and artistically vibrant community wherein all forms of the arts flourish.” Through the help of the community, the Council has utilized the Chicken Parade to raise revenue for arts programming for fiscal years 2015-2016. About the San Marcos Arts Council

Founded in 2009, the San Marcos Arts Council, Inc. of San Marcos, California is an all-volunteer Board organized to promote and advance artistic activity in our community, primarily through education, exposing the public to the fine and performing arts, and serving as a community resource in promoting artistic development throughout our city and neighboring communities. Since its inception, the Council has regularly hosted free hands-on activities at community events, partnered with artists and non-profits, as well as sponsored artist workshops. A City grant in 2013 has allowed the Council to reach new heights in programming and outreach. Visit the Council at www.SanMarcosArtsCouncil.com.
