Two Arrested for Robbery in Vista

Vista CA— On November 25, 2014 at about 12:24 AM, two suspects entered the Chevron gas station located 1590 S. Melrose Drive in Vista and robbed the business. The suspects demanded money while one of them pointed a gun at the store clerk.

The suspects then removed the cash from the register and fled the business. The store clerk suffered minor injuries during the robbery.

At about 12:53 AM, two male suspects matching the description of the robbery suspects were detained by patrol deputies several blocks from the Chevron. One of the suspects was a 16-year-old juvenile. The other suspect was identified as 18-year-old Drew Viramontes. Viramontes was carrying a significant amount of cash, similar to the amount taken in the robbery.

Both suspects were subsequently arrested for robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime. The juvenile was also charged with carrying a switchblade knife.

Viramontes was also charged with committing a felony while out on bail. Vista detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and were able to locate the gun used in the crime.

The gun was a BB style type gun which had the appearance of a real gun. This investigation is ongoing.
