World-Renowned Musicians to Play Live Show at Mission Trails Regional Park

San Diego County CA— The Visitor Center at Mission Trails Regional Park will host world-renowned musicians Jeff Pekarek and Fred Benedetti as they perform Panamerican Shanties II, an exciting concert featuring music from circa 1915 to coincide with next year’s centennial of the Panama-California Exposition.

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Visitor Center theater at Mission Trails Regional Park, allowing for an intimate setting and a rich, acoustically-enhanced listening experience for the audience. The concert will be free for guests, though space is limited and concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to the event. The Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center is located  One Father Junipero Serra Trail in  San Diego.

Panamerican Shanties II features an exciting combination of music from around the world and across historical eras. The event, which acts as an encore to Pekarek’s and Benedetti’s first concert at the Park, features additional songs from Pekarek’s album, Panamerican Shanty. The album showcases diverse musical styles and unique blends, evoking music from classic sea shanties, polka, American folk, milongas and beyond. The songs on the album tell a story set in San Diego and exploring the Pacific Rim.

Jeff Pekarek is a San Diego native and a Golden Hill resident. He was the youngest member of the San Diego Symphony when he joined at age 17. Since then, he has spent his career contributing to San Diego music culture and education, releasing several albums and working as a string instrument instructor at the Bishop’s School in La Jolla. He also serves as a session bassist for many artists and bands.

Fred Benedetti is a member of San Diego State University’s guitar faculty who also teaches as an Associate Professor of Music at Grossmont College, where he is Chair of Guitar Studies. He began playing guitar at the age of nine and has since won several music and music teaching awards from various organizations. His work is can be heard on more than 60 CDs, as well as numerous movie soundtracks and TV commercials. Benedetti continues to actively record and perform with a number of groups. He has shared the stage and recorded with famed artists including Art Garfunkel, Willie Nelson and Patty Loveless. Benedetti has performed for world leaders including former President Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev and the King and Queen of Malaysia.

The concert is part of the Park’s free concert series, designed to showcase Mission Trails Regional Park as San Diego’s premiere educational and recreational resource. Admission is free. More information about the concert, as well as the park, can be found at www.mtrp.org
