Motorcyclist Airlifted after Collision with Parked Car in Carlsbad

Carlsbad CA— On Saturday afternoon, January 3, at 5:31, the Carlsbad Police Department received a call regarding a serious injury traffic collision located in the 7200 block of Columbine Dr. Officers responded and found that an off-road Kawasaki motorcycle ridden by 39 year-old Jason Meerbergen of Carlsbad had collided with a parked vehicle. Carlsbad Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical treatment to the injured rider. The rider was transported by helicopter to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the motorcyclist was northbound on Columbine Dr. when he struck a vehicle parked along the east curb. It is unknown why the motorcycle collided with the parked vehicle at this time. Alcohol or drug intoxication is not suspected to be involved in the collision.

The investigation at the scene has been concluded and the roadway has been reopened. Further investigation into the cause and the extent of the rider’s injuries is forthcoming.
