Oceanside CA— Theatre Arts West, a theatre and arts company, will be making its home in Oceanside.
You are invite you to join them for their first production – A. R. Gurney’s Love Letters at the Brooks Theatre.
This finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and beloved, timeless story of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, Love Letters resonates with audiences around the world as it follows the lives of two people who meet as children, become best friends, and fall in and never quite out of love with one another over the course of their lives.
Featuring Theatre Arts West’s Artistic Director, Gailee Walker Wells, and Company Member, Tim Scheidt, TAW’s production of Love Letters garnered rave reviews for its 2013 and 2014 productions and the company is excited to bring this compelling love story to Oceanside for three performances.
As Charles Isherwood wrote in his 2014 review of the Broadway revival, “What ultimately makes the play so haunting is the recognition that the heart of Andy and Melissa’s relationship cannot be captured in the many thousands of words they exchange. Even today, when people broadcast their every waking thought on any number of social media platforms, we only really manage to record a small sliver of what it means, and how it feels, to grow and change, to experience love and endure loss. In its oblique and unaffected way, “Love Letters” illustrates this universal truth, that so much of life, probably most of it, is a solitary journey, a letter we write only to ourselves.”
