Oceanside CA— World-leading violin performer and ethnographer-artist, Yale Strom, will join the MiraCosta College Jazz Collective for a night of eclectic music that fuses the varying influences of jazz, funk and klezmer. The concert is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m.
A violinist, composer, filmmaker, writer, educator, photographer and playwright, Strom is a pioneer among revivalists in conducting extensive field research in Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans among the Jewish and Rom communities since the early 1981. His research has comprised the foundation for his art, including new klezmer and classical compositions, which have been performed by orchestras and music groups in the U.S. and abroad, as well as by his own ensemble, Yale Strom & Hot Pstromi.
Since 2006, Strom has been an “artist-in-residence” in the Jewish Studies Program at San Diego State University, a position specifically created for him.
A master class, sponsored by Soille San Diego Hebrew Day School and the Leichtag Foundation, will be presented prior to the concert at 3:30pm.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Box Office (Building 2000), by phone at 760.795.6815, or online www.miracosta.edu/events.
