Oceanside CA— Join Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) on May 15, 2015 from 7:00-10:00pm for an evening of art and celebration. OMA presents its ongoing series of one-night-only thematic art events, Art After Dark: Modern Madonnas, sponsored in part by Beach Terrace Inn and Harrah’s Resort Southern California. OMA’s After Dark events are curated to educate, engage, and entertain museum guests, tastemakers, and art entertainment enthusiasts by featuring a variety of music, live and interactive art, and performances, as well as wine and beer tasting. In celebration of Mother’s Day, Art After Dark: Modern Madonnas will present a lively showcase of regional artists and their modern interpretations of the classical symbol of femininity and maternity throughout the ages: the Madonna.
Art After Dark: Modern Madonnas will be a visual feast of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art and performances influenced by important historical artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Yoko Ono, Cindy Sherman, and Betye Saar. Local San Diego county artists Nicole Waszak, Evgeniya Golik, and Erin Bartleson will present their thematic work examining women and their shifting roles in contemporary art through live painting demonstrations and art exhibition. Performance poet, comedy writer, and Modern Madonna, April Ventura will entertain guests with stories from a modern woman, while singer and musician DJ Gingee provides a backdrop of contemporary music and live musical performances. An interactive art bar, hosted by New Village Arts Foundry, will turn guests into artists to create a collective work of art throughout the night of the event. Food trucks will be on-hand to satisfy guests’ appetites while event sponsors Arcana Brewing Co., Banana Dang Coffee, California Fruit Wine, Living Tea Brewing Co., O’Neill Honey Co., Stone Brewing Co., and Tap That provide guests with tastings to quench their thirst.
