MiraCosta College Program Gets Name Change

New Name to Depict its Role in the Community

Oceanside CA— After decades of being known as MiraCosta College Community Service & Business Development, the program has officially changed its name to Community Education and Workforce Development.

The name change comes after the program’s relocation to the college’s Technology Career Institute (TCI) in March 2015.

“Changing the first part of our name to Community Education gives a much better understanding of our role at MiraCosta College,” said Linda Kurokawa, director of Community Education and Workforce Development. “The term ‘Business Development’ is often confused with developing funds for a new business. However, ‘Workforce Development’ is generally understood as training our workforce, which is exactly what we do in our many work skills programs.”

Kurokawa hopes the new name will bring a greater recognition of what the program is and what it provides to the community.

“When we say the new name, there is immediate recognition and understanding from both our residents and the business community,” said Kurokawa. “Prior to the name change, we always had to explain further what we offer in our programs.  It is a great move and we love the new name and image it portrays.”
