Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office will host a new exhibit, Drawn: West Coast Drawing, from June 28 to Aug. 16 at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery in the Carlsbad City (Dove) Library. The gallery, located at 1775 Dove Lane, is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
This group exhibition includes the work of 20 contemporary artists and features their exploration of the drawing medium. West Coast Drawing, founded in 2003, celebrates a group of artists on the California coast who work in drawing media and highlights the importance of drawing: its diversity, its technical challenges and its standard-bearing excellence in the arts. Group members offer each other mutual inspiration while engaging in a vigorous dialogue on the evolving nature of drawing.
Programs and events planned in conjunction with Drawn include a free opening reception hosted by the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts on Saturday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery and a free Family Open Studios on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the gallery courtyard. Materials and workspace are provided for Family Open Studios, and no reservations are required.
Operated by the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office, the Cannon Art Gallery offers a broad range of exhibitions, school and family programs, gallery tours, lectures and publications.
