San Diego CA— New ambulance contracts awarded to Falck in the last few months help solidify the Denmark-based company as the third largest ambulance provider in the United States. With the expansion of its subsidiary Care Ambulance Service in Orange County and new contracts in Aurora, Colorado and Salem, Oregon, Falck will now bring unrivaled service and care to thousands of new patients in the western United States.
The Orange County decision was finalized on April 28 when the Orange County Board of Supervisors overwhelmingly voted to make Care Ambulance Service the primary provider for four of the County’s five service areas. Falck acquired Care in 2010 as part of its expansion into the U.S. ambulance market. Care Ambulance Service provides ambulance service to Santa Ana, Anaheim, Costa Mesa and many other Orange County cities. The new contract designates Care as the primary provider for 17 additional cities in Orange County, including Irvine, Tustin, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Hills, Dana Point, and others. In addition, Care will serve as the backup for Emergency Ambulance Service in Placentia and Yorba Linda.
“The success of Care Ambulance in Orange County is a testament to our values, which guide the way we do business,” said Care’s CEO Troy Hagen. “We strive to bring honesty and transparency to all of our relationships, a model based on Falck’s century of experience assisting people in emergencies.”
The other major contracts in Salem and Aurora will greatly enhance the company’s growing presence in the western United States. With 27,000 dispatched ambulance calls in Aurora each year, the contract is one of the largest in the State of Colorado and gives Falck its first foothold in the Rocky Mountain region. Falck was unanimously selected to replace Rural/Metro, the City’s ambulance provider since 2007, by a nine-member committee that included representatives from the City, local hospitals, fire department and local firefighter union.
Falck was also selected for a five-year contract to provide emergency services in the Oregon state capital of Salem, expanding Falck Northwest Corp. beyond its current service territory in the Puget Sound area of Washington. Falck will take over services from Rural/Metro when the current provider’s contract expires this coming July.
“Falck’s successful growth in the western United States reflects our deep commitment to the communities we serve,” said Mark Norman, managing director for Falck San Diego. “Our position as the world’s leading provider of emergency medical services provides us with unparalleled opportunities to continue this tradition in San Diego, where we are delivering state-of-the-art technology and healthcare practices, as well as unrivaled support to local community organizations. We strongly believe that when individual neighborhoods are empowered, the entire community benefits.”
