7 Year-old Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Mission Ave in Oceanside—Updated

Oceanside CA— At approximately 1:57 pm the Oceanside Police Dispatch Center began receiving numerous 911 calls of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. Further calls stated a child was hit by a black Tundra and another caller said the child was about 8 years old. Oceanside Fire and Police responded to the scene. The driver of the Tundra pulled over and waited for emergency services to arrive.

The Oceanside Fire Department arrived and the child was taken to Tri-City Medical Center by ambulance. The child succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by Tri-City Medical
Center emergency personnel at 2:30 pm.

The collision occurred as the victim and her family were waiting to cross Mission Ave about 200 yards west of Ocean Pointe. The Toyota Tundra was traveling westbound in the #1 lane of Mission Ave. The driver, 82 year old, Richard White Sr., observed the group and began to slow down. White said he did not see the child as she was shielded by a male adult when she suddenly ran out in front of his vehicle. He was unable to stop or take evasive action to avoid striking her.

Speed nor alcohol were factors in this collision. The investigation is being handled by the Oceanside Police Department’s MAIT Team. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Accident Investigator Bryan Hendrix at (760) 435-4882.
