Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Oceanside Man on SR-78

Oceanside CA—  Thursday night, July 16. 2015 at approximately 9:30pm a 43 year-old female was driving her Volkswagen Passat eastbound on SR-78 in the #1 lane at a stated speed of 68mph.

She said that she observed two high-speed motorcycles in her rear view mirror approaching from behind. She attempted to change from the #1 lane into the #2 lane when she felt the impact of one of the motorcycles colliding into the rear of her vehicle.

One of the motorcycle riders, a 35 year-old male from Oceanside was ejected from his 2000 Kawasaki Ninja and pronounced dead on the scene. The other motorcyclist did not stay on scene and it is unknown at this time if it played a factor in this collision.

There were no injuries to the driver of the Passat. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The accident remains under investigation. The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of next of kin.
