Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad’s Film Series is screening free feature films the last three Wednesdays in August at the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium in the Carlsbad City Library, located 1775 Dove Lane. Special features begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the film at 6 p.m. Seating is first come, first served.
This month’s theme is “Audacious Adventures.”

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, PG-13, 121 min.)
After stealing a mysterious orb in the far reaches of outer space, Peter Quill from Earth, is now the main target of a manhunt led by the villain known as Ronan the Accuser. To help fight Ronan and save the galaxy, Quill creates a team of space heroes known as the Guardians of the Galaxy to save the world.

This film is based on a true story. After graduating from Emory University, top student athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire savings to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters who shape his life.

Big Fish (2003, PG-13, 125 min.)
A son attempts to learn more about his dying father by piecing together the stories gathered over the years. The son ends up re-creating his father’s life in a series of legends and myths inspired by the few facts he knows. Through these tales, he begins to understand his father’s great feats and failings.
