San Diego County CA— Local percussionist N. Scott Robinson will perform a variety of musical selections on several different instruments from around the world on Sunday, August 30 at 3 p.m. at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center. Joining Robinson as a special guest will be K.S. Resmi providing vocals and other Indian music.
Robinson will play songs using various instruments, including the lap-style frame drum, riqq, mediterr-asian tambourine, ghaval, handpan, hammer dulcimer, mbira dza vadzimu, berimbau and hindewhu.
A current professor in the San Diego Mesas College Music Department, Robinson has been playing music since the age of 13. His initial interests in the world of percussion began in high school, when he developed a passion for jazz drums. Later, in college, Robinson learned about the field of “world percussion,” or unique and region-specific percussion instruments. Robinson is widely known as one of the most accomplished American contemporary world percussionists. This Sunday’s concert will reflect his career playing various world percussion instruments.
The concert is part of the Park’s free concert series, designed to showcase Mission Trails Regional Park as San Diego’s premiere educational and recreational resources. Admission is free. More information about the free concert series at Mission Trails Regional Park, can be found at www.mtrp.org.
