Carlsbad Man Killed in Collision on SR-76

Rincon CA— This afternoon, October 3, 2015 at approximately 3:45 pm an 84 year-old male from Carlsbad was driving his 2007 Toyota Corolla northbound on Valley Center Rd and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of SR-76.

For reasons not known at this time, he entered the intersection directly into the path of a 2003 Chevrolet Pickup towing a trailer driven by a 47 year-old male from San Marcos. The truck was traveling eastbound on SR-76. The driver of the truck was unable stop prior to colliding broadside into the Corolla.

Fire personnel attempted to revive the 84 year-old driver at the scene but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the truck did not suffer any injuries in the
collision.

At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. The accident remains under investigation.
