Sen. Patricia Bates Visits Federal Heath Sign Company on MFG Day

Oceanside CA— Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) highlighted the importance of manufacturing to California’s economy with a visit to Oceanside’s Federal Heath Sign Company during Manufacturing Day (also known as MFG Day).

“Manufacturing is critical to California’s economy and it’s important that all lawmakers understand its value when crafting new laws,” said Bates. “That’s why I’m proud to highlight local manufacturers such as Federal Heath. We need more manufacturing jobs and one way to encourage that is to streamline laws that stand in the way of more investment in our communities.”

During the recently concluded 2015 legislative year, Bates was a leader in efforts of opposing new tax increases that would have raised investment costs, such as an increase in the gas tax that would have hit businesses and families hard. At the same time, Bates supported measures to repair California’s roads and highways by reprioritizing existing spending.

Manufacturing Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. Bates’ visit to Federal Heath highlighted its work to create electric signs and canopies for companies in a variety of fields. The Oceanside-based company employs 450 employees at 20 locations nationwide.

According to the National Association of Manufacturers, California’s manufacturers account for almost 11 percent of the total output in the state, employing more than 8 percent of the workforce. Total output from manufacturing was more than $239 billion in 2013. In addition, there were more than 1.2 million manufacturing employees in California in 2014, with an average annual compensation of $90,538 in 2013.
