Possible Accidental Shooting in Oceanside-Updated

UPDATE: The name of the person injured in this incident has been released as; Jeffrey Vuytowecz DOB: 03/27/87, of Oceanside. At this time it is believed the shooting was accidental.

Oceanside CA— This morning at 6:41 a.m. dispatchers for the Oceanside Police Department received a phone call from a resident in the 4100 block of Thomas Street. The caller told dispatch a neighbor had just exited his house across the street. The neighbor had a gunshot wound in the chest area.

When officers arrived, the victim told them he was removing his gun from his shoulder holster and it accidentally discharged, striking him in the chest. He was later transported to Tri City Medical Center and flown to Scripps Hospital.

Due to the circumstances the Investigations Unit of the Oceanside Police Department was notified.

There is no available information at this time as to the identity of the victim or the severity of the wound.
