Solana Beach CA— Author and musician, Alex Woodard, who recently released “For The Sender: Love Letters from Vietnam,” – his third book and coordinated album – announced that Jon Foreman, lead singer and guitarist of Switchfoot, will perform at For The Sender’s special holiday concert at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Calif. on Sunday, Dec. 20. Foreman is the co-founder of the Grammy-Award winning alternative band Switchfoot and is excited to join the talented lineup of musicians in order to give back to the community. This event, partnered with Switchfoot’s Bro-Am Foundation, aims to benefit Team RWB, an organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity, and their surf camp for veterans next year. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and show is from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
In celebration of the launch of Woodard’s new book and album, the holiday concert will unveil the raw and heartfelt stories revealed in “For The Sender: Love Letters from Vietnam” from war veteran, Sgt. John K. Fuller. In this true story, the book encompasses Sgt. Fuller’s love letters sent to his wife and delivers powerful stories of service and sacrifice, love and redemption, and more. These touching letters were buried in a closet for years before the death of Sgt. Fuller, which ultimately led Fuller’s daughter, Jennifer Fuller, to open the box, read the letters and answer her father back in time.
“Foreman and I met quite a few years ago and share a love of surfing and music,” said Woodard. “Since proceeds from this moving event go towards a surf camp for veterans, I cannot think of a more appropriate way to honor what brought he and I together in the first place. I am thrilled to have him join us as he believes and acts on the mantra that life is to be celebrated each and every day. He is right at home with the show’s group of multi-platinum selling artists and shares the belief that beauty rises from the ashes, which is an essential aspect of these songs and stories.”
“I find it really powerful to be the songwriter of these life stories,” said Foreman. The relationships formed between the line-up of artists goes further than just music, making it an even more special event. “These are deep, deep friendships here. A lot of times you have that in music, but it’s rare that something like this actually happens outside of the home.”
Along with Woodard and Foreman, this one-of-a-kind show will feature local and acclaimed artists including Molly Jenson, Jordan Pundik, lead singer of New Found Glory; Jack Tempchin, singer-songwriter best known for writing two of the Eagles’ classics; Sean and Sara Watkins, Grammy award-winning artists from Nickel Creek; Nena Anderson and several other extraordinary guests. General admission tickets are priced at $18 in advance and $20 on the day of the show.
