21-Year-Old Dies in North County Crash

Escondido CA— Last night, January 11, 2016 at about 7:27 pm, officers from the Escondido Police Department were dispatched to the area of County Club Lane and Broadway regarding a serious injury collision involving a vehicle into a tree. Officers arrived and found a 2006 Dodge Caravan with major damage on Country Club Lane west of Broadway.

The vehicle impacted a tree with enough force that it was nearly torn in half.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Dodge was traveling west on Country Club Lane at a high rate of speed. The vehicle drifted off the roadway and impacted a tree in the center median.

The 21-year-old driver died at the scene. There were no passengers in vehicle.

The driver’s name is not being released at this time until next of kin have been notified.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the collision although speed played a major role.

The traffic investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Mike Nelson of the Traffic Division.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Officer Nelson at (760) 839-4407
