Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents the musical comedy, “Urinetown,” a side-splitting send-up of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!) in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. The play opens March 11 at the MiraCosta College Theatre located, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Tracy Williams will direct.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Among the people, a hero decides he’s had enough, and plans a revolution to lead everyone to freedom.
“From the time we chose to put this play in our season, so much has happened in our local area and in our country having to do with water and politics. From the Flint, Michigan, water disaster and the drought in our own backyard, Urinetown is more meaningful at this moment in time than at any other time in its history,” said Williams. “I hope folks will come and laugh with us and vent with us.”
The cast includes Matthew Abosamra, Bryce Ayers, Timothy Cabal, Shelby Caughron, Donovan Dec, Deborah Dodaro, Elle Dodaro, Kyle Dowdy, Anna Gagliardo, Cassandra Heiner, Sawyer Henderson, Rachael Hodge, Natsumi Kawamura, Kelly Kissinger, Jason Marks, Anton Maroun, John McCoy, Austyn Meyers, Brent Perkins, Joseph Prete, Zack Purdy, Ana Reyes, Alex Smith Christopher Walters, Sarah White and Kelly Zimbelman.
