Carlsbad CA— P+R Architects helped unveil Equinox La Costa in Carlsbad, exceeding goals in design, form and function. Equinox La Costa, the first Equinox location in San Diego County, opened on Tuesday, April 5 and is located 7710 El Camino Real.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks were led by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, Equinox Chief Operating Officer Scott Rosen and Equinox General Manager Ron Deimling, among others. P+R Architects team was in attendance to support its Equinox partner and City officials.
P+R Architects worked intimately with Equinox’s New York City-based design team on the interior and shell design and tenant improvement projects to introduce Carlsbad to the Equinox brand, a luxury lifestyle leader that seeks to inspire through considered design and bespoke experiences.
“Equinox presented us the opportunity to introduce its first club to the coastal city of San Diego. The team tasked us with merging the dichotomy of Carlsbad’s identity as a coastal resort with Equinox’s signature mix of substance and style,” said Jonathan Lopez, Project Design Director at P+R Architects. “In order to blend two contrasting goals the design balances between historic definitions of Californian mission style with infusing qualities of contemporary architecture. Focusing on a collaborative design process enabled us to transform a former abandoned grocery store into a new home for Equinox in La Costa.”
The new Equinox is a haven for high-performance luxury worthy of Carlsbad. A sunny, soaring space inspired by the area’s Spanish architecture, the club welcomes members warmly with its dramatic skylight, massive windows and exposed wood ceilings. Highlights include stunning Group Fitness studios for Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Barre and a roster of signature classes. A Kids Club, luxe Spa, Shop, café and lounge round out this invigorating, upscale fitness experience that’s quintessentially Southern Californian and perfectly tailored to the local lifestyle.
“P+R Architects was an integral part of our design success and City approval of the new club’s facade and sightlines, which had to dramatically blend-in with the existing environment,” said Aaron Richter, Vice President of Design for Equinox. “The exterior and interior designs were challenging and complex considering the task of transforming a 30,000 square foot former grocery store into a community hub for high performance living.”
Equinox La Costa also serves as a gateway and anchor tenant to The Beacon – an upscale, boutique retail development and community gathering space redeveloped by Linwood Ventures.
“The success of this project hinged on the collaboration between Equinox’s New York based team, Bayley Construction and our team at P+R,” said Kristen Kepner, Project Manager at P+R Architects. “It was a unique role to be involved in both the tenant and shell improvements, giving our team insights and seamless coordination to overcome an incredibly aggressive construction schedule. With our efforts the City of Carlsbad and Equinox now have a property that speaks to the resort community of La Costa.”
P+R Architects is proud to add Equinox La Costa to its robust tenant improvement and interiors portfolio, as well as assisting in the transformation of this unique Carlsbad property.
