Motorcyclist Killed on I-5 in Carlsbad-Updated

Update: The motorcycle rider has been identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiners Office as 35-year-old Jaime Lopez Martinez, of Vista.

Driver Charged with DUI

Carlsbad CA— This afternoon, April 29th 2016 at approximately 3:47pm a 27-year-old female was driving her 2012 Hyundai Sonata southbound on 1-5 south of Poinsettia Ave at an unknown speed and changing from the #1 to the #2 lane.  At the same time a 35-year-old male was splitting traffic between the #1 and #2 lanes on his 1999 Suzuki motorcycle at an unknown speed.

The motorcyclist collided into the vehicle that was changing lanes and was ejected. His helmet popped off and he came to rest on the right shoulder of I-5. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the Hyundai was arrested for DUI and transported to Vista Detention Facility.
