San Marcos CA— Last night, Sunday, May 1, 2016 at approximately 7:56 pm, a 29-year-old male from Oceanside was driving his 1986 Toyota Corolla Sport eastbound on Buena Creek Rd (near the address of 325 Buena Creek Rd) at a high rate of speed. He attempted to pass a 1997 Dodge Ram Driven by a 43-year-old male from Vista and crossed over the double yellow line into the opposite lane.
He collided head-on into a 2010 Kia Rondo driven by a 54-year-old female from Vista along with her husband sitting in the passenger seat.
This collision caused the Toyota to be pushed back into the eastbound lane where it collided into the 1997 Dodge Ram that it initially tried to pass.
After that collision it was pushed back again into the westbound lane and collided head on into a 2008 Toyota Tundra driven by a 48-year-old male from Vista.
The unidentified driver of the 1986 Toyota Corolla was pronounced dead on scene. His passenger, a 30-year-old male from Escondido, suffered major injuries and was transported to Palomar Hospital.
Both the driver and the passenger in the 2010 Kia Rondo suffered moderate injuries and were also transported to Palomar Hospital.
No injures reported on scene by the people in the other two vehicles, 2008 Toyota Tundra or the 1997 Dodge Ram.
At this time it is unknown if alcohol or drugs played a factor in this collision. The incident remains under investigation.
