Alcohol Possible Factor in Early Morning Crash

Carlsbad CA— Early this morning, May 5, 2016, at 2:49 a.m., officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to a traffic collision involving a single vehicle on Carlsbad Village Drive just west of El Camino Real.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Carlsbad Village Drive approaching the intersection of El Camino Real.  For an unknown reason, the driver failed to negotiate the left bend in the roadway and collided with the south curb of Carlsbad Village Drive.

The vehicle continued in an easterly direction and collided with a tree, coming to rest on the south sidewalk of Carlsbad Village Drive.  The passenger crawled out of the wreckage.  Carlsbad Fire Department personnel responded and extricated the driver of the vehicle.

Both occupants were transported to Scripps La Jolla for their injuries.  The cause of the collision is under investigation.  It appears that alcohol may be a contributing factor.

The investigation is being handled by the Carlsbad Police Department Traffic Division. Anyone with information about this collision is encouraged to call the Carlsbad Police Department at 760-931-2197.
