Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Public Library invites children and their caregivers to kick off the annual summer reading program with two special events. On Friday, June 3, 2016 at 4:00 p.m., the Mission Branch Library, 3861-B Mission Avenue, will host special guest Buster Balloon.
Attendees will delight in a wild and wacky mix of side-splitting comedy, mind-boggling magic, and the most amazing balloon twisting you have ever seen. On Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. the Civic Center Library, 330 Coast Highway, will present magician Dave Skale’s “The Great Race.” This comedy magic show features audience participation and magic centered on the race between “Rocky” the Rabbit and “Mr. T” the Turtle. These events are free and fun for the whole family.
This year’s theme, titled “Read for the Win,” runs from June 1 to July 30, 2016, and offers many activities that are free, educational and entertaining for all ages. Children ages 0-12 earn prizes for reading 30 minutes a day, or being read to, and enjoy events such as music, science, puppet and animal shows at the Library throughout the summer. The summer reading program helps children maintain or improve their reading levels and fosters a lifelong love of learning and reading.
Teens ages 13-18 can participate in summer reading as well. For the teen program, participants earn a prize drawing ticket for a chance to win grand prizes for every book read this summer and every program attended! The Teen program will kick-off with decorating parties on June 1 at 3:00 p.m. at the Civic Center Library and June 2 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mission Branch Library, and continues with exciting programming all summer long!
Level Up Gaming will be at the library to teach teens how to play “Force of Will,” there will be a Robotics Freeze Tag Challenge where teens create their own robots, and SwordScholar will be at the library to teach teens medieval weaponry. Pick up a teen calendar for details on many more fun programs!
