Cabrillo Credit Union wins Best Booth at San Diego Chili Challenge

San Diego CA— Cabrillo Credit Union’s team, Chili de Janeiro, was selected Best Booth at XDI’s 4th Annual Chili Challenge.  In addition to “bragging rights,” they won a $1,000 donation benefitting Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego.

The Cabrillo team selected an Olympic / Rio de Janeiro theme this year, incorporating flags from around the world, and a backdrop that looked like grandstands. In order to add a piece of Brazil, numerous Carnival and Tropical details were included.

When asked about their team’s booth design, Cabrillo employee and Chili de Janeiro Team Captain, Hilary Dene said:

“Picture yourself in the grandstands in Brazil, intensely watching the Rio 2016 Olympics. Medals are being placed around the necks of Olympians.  As they hold their medals in the air, searching proudly for their country’s flag, they smell Rio in the air.  Carnival masques…feathered Rio girls…towering tropical fruits…the cheering and excitement.

That was our vision, as we designed our booth.”

Cabrillo Credit Union’s other Chili Challenge team, Beans Marley and the Wailers, didn’t place this year, but had a lot of fun participating.

XDI’s Annual Chili Challenge is a unique way for credit unions to join together and compete to raise money for the charities of their choice.   This year a record 18 credit union teams were vying for $10,000 in donations.

The event, which is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, was held on August 6th at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racetrack.

“We are extremely proud of our employees.  Their creativity, enthusiasm and hard work really paid off.

Cabrillo recently completed a record-breaking fundraising month for Rady Children’s Hospital.  We feel fortunate to be able to help contribute even more through this event.” stated Cabrillo Credit Union’s Chief Executive, Robin Lentz.
